Bertrand Russell and democracy

In the Guardian (via Eastethnia). Lord Russell wrote a little book on democracy in the 1950's, What is Democracy?. This is a review in the Guardian from 1953, reprinted here. Not terribly terribly interesting. Russell wasn't a great political theorist. Logician and epistemologist, yes. But take a peek anyway.

Reminds me also of an apparently forgotten text by Thomas Mann -- The Coming Victory of Democracy, an interesting little book based on lectures given in exile in the US in 1938. Also worth putting on your reading list if it's not already there.
