You know, I'm not all that old, but I tend to like music from anytime prior to about 1985, with only the rare stuff beyond that like Sonic Youth and even Arcade Fire. I bought Bloc Party's Silent Alarm yesterday on a whim. It's pretty damn good. Pick it up if you trust the tastes of a guy who's favorite musicians are the Kinks, John Martyn, Incredible String Band, Wire, The Jam, The Replacements, Hank Snow, Lee Morgan, Charlie Shavers, Brian Eno, The Maytals, Radiohead (later), Mouse on Mars, Nick Cave, Claude Nougaro, Serge Gainsbourg, France Gall, Cal Tjader, Mutantes, Jorge Ben, The Books, The Zombies, Neil Young's On the Beach, and really about a billion others.
Oh, I also got a copy of Prefuse 73's "Surrounded by Silence." Also, not bad.
