Christmas party class

I am apparently of the lower Christmas party class. My wife, it turns out, is in the uppercrust of Christmas party society. At her company's party last weekend we had a thirteen-course meal catered by elegant youths and a chef dressed all in black. Cosmopolitans and martinis and traditional American rum-punch were served. Dishes included pulled buffalo and lightly pickled cabbage, smoked squash and lotus, sushi, oyster pudding, tamales, squash bisque, smoked salmon in a blueberry sauce, etc. and about ten different desserts. Italian jackets and party dresses. The party was in the company president's newly renovated and airy $1 million+ loft in Capitol Hill with a nightview of the city from a rooftop deck the size of my apartment.

This Saturday, my department is having its Christmas party. It's a potluck. I'll buy a pie at the grocery store.

No grocery story pie! Make yerself a "pumpkin" pie with kabocha squash from an Asian grocery. Throw in a half of a reconstituted chipotle chile, minced! Ask Rollo about it!

I said that for effect. Artistic license. I usually make pies (and I've made chipotle pies -- how about chipotle, chocolate butternut squash?), tho' we do have a really good bakery. But I've already re-decided that I'm going with cheese, Red Leicester, in fact.
