New species in Indonesia

A friend, a law prof in Texas, wrote me an email yesterday in which he suggested that I tend to blog apocalyptically. Do I? Sometimes it's difficult to see who one is on the page, in the mirror, in one's behavior and one's relationships, stepping outside of one's ideas to rinse them anew in fresh water. But...

Here's an article to start off the day with wonderment: on new species found in a secluded rainforest in the Foja Mountains of Papua province, Indonesia. See especially the accompanying photos on the NY Times page.

Scientists have discovered what amounts to a lost world in an isolated Indonesian jungle, identifying dozens of new species of frogs, butterflies and plants, as well as large mammals that have been hunted to near extinction elsewhere, members of the expedition said Tuesday.

Wonderful!

But... also keep in mind that there is an extremely high probability that this could be the very last time you ever hear of such a story....
