Via Lindsay, Majikthise, a brief report that 3,000 monkeys [corrected: thanks, Barba] of three different species - capuchins, howlers, and squirrel monkeys - died over a few weeks at the end of 2005 in Corcovado on the relatively remote Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica. There's an ongoing investigation into what caused the deaths.
A shame. Corcovado is a brilliant jewel of a place too.
UPDATE:
Not included in this report is how many numbers of each species have died. This is especially important given that the Pacific coast of Costa Rica is home to one of the last remaining populations of squirrel monkeys (mono titi) in Central America and it is a tiny population (due largely to their capture as pets).

Damn! is that a beautiful picture.
Sure hope they figure out the monkeys... That's a lotta dying all at once.
Helmut: if I'm reading the links right, 10,000 is the total estimated population, 3,000 to 4,000 of which died.
It's crazy and sad.
Dont get it Ive been in costarica for 6 months and didnt hear about this news before, just today somebody from outside told me, its odd, and its serious, been trying to get deeper information but its not provided.
Let me know if you hear something new, Antonio.
