Protests

In Thailand, Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra is stepping down after weeks of protest, a poor showing in the national elections, and a meeting with King Bhumibol.

In France, students (and now also workers) continue to march against the new job law, despite Chirac's weak attempt at appeasement.

In Brazil, the Landless Peasants' Movement storms the offices of Minais Gerais.

In the US, for the past two weeks huge immigrant protests against proposed immigration laws have occurred in most of the large cities.

And, in the US the news of the day - apart from Tom Delay's already foretold resignation - is that Katie Couric is moving to CBS.
