Soca Warriors!

My first child will now be named Soca Warrior.

Trinidad-Tobago 0 - Sweden 0. Trinidad gets a point in its first ever World Cup game. Way to go!

Yeah, Hislop rocked. What a terrific performance. And I really liked the fans. Not those Spanish monkey fans.

T&T are now my favorite team, at least until tomorrow, when Mexico plays. Played a man short the whole second half. Swedish fans were literally weeping....

Yup, a man down too. Very cool. I'm a Mexico fan as well. Funny how fandom shifts around as the Cup moves along.

My two big ones are France and the US. I want to see the US do well. It's a good team, good guys, who've struggled in the shadows of American sports cast upon them by football, basketball, etc. France, to me, really plays a beautiful game rivalled only by Brazil.

I can't go for Spain after the treatment of black players in the Spanish league. I'd like England more if the fans weren't such asses. I can't stand Italy or Argentina, who both compete for whiniest fall-down-and-writhe team. I like the African upstarts like Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire. And I'm fond of Dutch football.

And... this could all change tomorrow (except for France).

I want to like Spain. But, first, they're so frustrating to watch, underachievers as they are. And, second, I have a hard time forgiving the treatment of black players. I know it's usually a minority group, but I heard Spanish coaches saying that E'to, for example, brought it upon himself by protesting. And that, anyway, it's just a way to try psych out the opposing team. That's crap. Sounds like the old American South. I love the country and the people and the language, food, and wine, and lots of other things about Spain. But they make it really difficult to support the team.

Still, if it came down to an Italy-Spain or Argentina-Spain final, I'd be pulling for Spain.

Cote d'Ivoire looks really good right now. Too bad they're down two goals to Argentina. CI has looked the better team. I think Drogba will put it into the net before the game's over.

As a Finn, I will have a chance to cheer our team roughly at the same time as the hell freezes over or the Laplanders start growing bananas. However, the next best thing to having a team playing in Germany is the Swedish tie with T&T. HEJA SVERIGE! :)
