France 1-0 over Portugal at the mi-temps. Henry was fouled in the box. Zidane slotted home the penalty kick.
Portugal is whining up and down the pitch. I want to like them, but these displays are giving them an even worse reputation than they already have. Crap football. Allez les Bleus!
UPDATE:
La victoire est toujours en nous! France wins 1-0!
This wasn't the greatest of matches. Neither was Italy vs. Germany yesterday. Too many poor touches and passes throughout the match. I find this oddest from Germany and France. Germany seemed to slow down the further they went in the tournament. France wanked the ball around today against Portugal and didn't look the same team that beat Spain and Brazil. They looked... perfunctory. As for Italy, they have played well for approximately one minute of the entire Cup and beat a tired Germany at the end. I know Portugal fans will obviously disagree, but despite the talent on the Portuguese side, they basically played over their head the last two matches. Today a lethargic France was enough to beat Portugal.
As for Portugal, I've tried to like them through the years, but I'm now done with that attempt. I have great respect for Figo and salute his fine career, despite his intentional head-butt in the Holland match. But Portugal's diving and whining on every tackle became simply too much. You lost a potential fan, Portugal. For me, this World Cup turned you into a less-talented version of Italy and Argentina, the divers/whiners supreme.
The final will require both France and Italy to step up their respective games. There's one main reason for this and for these two teams' presence in the final: defense. Italy has the usual much-vaunted defense. But France's defense has been underrated the entire Cup with all the attention on Zidane and Henry up front. Both teams will have to find a way to penetrate the others' defense. I don't care about Italy. I think France, however, might be wise to start Trezeguet alongside Henry.
Here's to a fine final that humiliates Italy!
UPDATE: Oh, and if you need another reason to root against Italy, here it is.
