This is not denial, but mass faulty memories. Nobody remembers any briefing on the al Qaeda threat - not Rice, not Rumsfeld, not Ashcroft,.... But neither do they deny the briefings ever occured. They might have attempted the latter only if they thought they could get away with it.
This apparently widespread memory loss also indicates that - assuming for a moment this is indeed all a simple matter of hippocampal malfunction - not one of them took the intelligence seriously enough to lodge it in their brains.
In other words, these people are either lying or incompetent. Bet you haven't heard that one before.

I haven't followed this closely, but why didn't this information/claim come out in the 9/11 Commission's report?
They were never made aware of it. It's difficult to ask the right questions about things you don't know exist.
