Breaking... Senator-Elect John Tester of Montana

Tester has proclaimed victory.

AP is giving it to Tester.

Bonus: Rumsfeld axed. Anyone want a Secretary of Defense job?

UPDATE: Robert Gates, former CIA Director and current President of Texas A&M, apparently wants it. Start up the Aggie jokes.

(Helmut, sadly, did his undergrad and MA there as a young commie, as did Flaco. Barba's worse, he got his PhD there - haha, Barba).

UPDATE 1:30pm ET: CNN has Montana going to Tester!

No, I met Helmut in College Station. He means "sadly," here not as a sentence level adverb, but as a modifier for "I went." In other words--and I was witness to this--he moped, he shuffled.

Sadly, I went sadly, as well.

We're just a buncha goddamned two percenters, after all. Sadly.

Oh, we all did pretty well by the place. But it does produce its share of rightwing junta-ists. That association has never been easy to live down.

I beg to differ, Barba, although I must express my gratitude for your defense of our common shame. Although I never two-stepped in any adequate sense of the term (except that of one step, then another, with subsequent steps involved), I did not mope. I shuffled at times. But I mostly strode with a certain degree of sadness. There was some sidling, as is the Texas way, but only New Yorkers shuffle. We were 2-percenters, but never shufflers (until I went to NYC, where I did some shuffling).

But, above all, what I truly preferred was to do the hustle.
