Why is it that we are reduced to searching for signs of whether the Bush administration is planning to attack Iran when such an attack would be hugely consequential for Americans and the world and should thus be publicly debated by those affected?

Like, duh! Helmut you point out the totally obvious-- which is why I like your blog.
Because it's a federal crime to stand in shouting range of the oval office, the ranch in Crawford is private property and only supporters are allowed at rallies. Because nobody holds out hope anymore for a sincere answer to a hard question or believes anything they say.
