All Hail the Internets

Now and then, in the rush of information, new software, new communications gadgets, and the gelatinous goop of mostly stupid ideas, one is reminded that the internet also has its lovely moments. Today on the internet I found this photo of my father (in the foreground), taken in Manila in 1962. No one in my family had ever seen it before.

He actually looks like my Uncle Mike-- although I doubt you are another cousin I never knew I had.

Wonderful! I love the light quality in photos from this era.

I'm told Manila was much nicer and smaller in 1962 than when I served there from 1992-4.

Did you just type "hep cat" into Google Images? Now we see where the suave urbanity and good looks come from. Not to mention the fruit. 1962...Manila...you sure your dad wasn't working for "the agency"? Has that look of a man who might like it shaken and not stirred.

Yeah, he is pretty hep cat. That or "the agency." This is long before I lived in Asia, but we did know a lot of characters who were agency types. Check out, for example, the link on the right tool bar under Phronesisaicality - "Life During Wartime" - for one example.
