A new folk hero in Colombia marches across the country voicing dissent at the constant kidnappings by rebels and paramilitaries and at President Uribe's policies. An estimated 3000 people are held hostage in Colombia by rebel groups. An estimated 3 million people have been systematically displaced from their homes. Thousands have been tortured and killed under both the leftist rebel FARC's activities and the rightwing paramiltary's activities. Witnesses describe ongoing atrocities of the most terrible kinds. Uribe has been using the rightwing paramilitary to "cleanse" Colombia. But "Plan Colombia" is as much a system of atrocity as it is whatever you want to see.
