It doesn't grow out of the water like a water lily and I doubt it's full of water like a water balloon.... Is the name's resemblance to "watermelon" a case of parallel evolution or homage? I wonder how many fruit are named after another species' fruit. If I were a kind of fruit, I'm sure I'd find the practice insulting.
It was actually called the pineapple lemon until, through practice and sadness, water lemon became preferred due to the teardrop shape of the fruit and it history of melancholia.
