Science is not a monument of received Truth but something that people do to look for truth.
A statement on how far we have slid is the fact this is even controversial.Poor Galileo.
I know. Isn't "a monument of received Truth" basically religion? One problem is that I often hear even scientists referring to their endeavors in these terms.
It's a problem like listening to doctors on health care or linebackers about football. The ostensible victims of misinformation are about as culpable as the promulgators. I wonder if even Wittgenstein knew well whereof he shouldn't speak. I blame it on not enough pragmatism being taught in the schools.
I don't even like seeing "Science" capitalized.
It has long been my opinion that scientists think a great deal of themselves and do a great deal of guessing and then it is taught to us as fact.
I think you must be thinking of Dr. Science, or somebody from the Bush administration.
