The Nachos are on W!

Man, if what I witnessed yesterday in Laredo is any indication of the kind of paranoia you folks in D.C. deal with every day, I'm sorry I ever complained at all about having to drive through a checkpoint every night on my way home from work. For George's visit to Laredo yesterday, the entrance to Texas A&M International University was sealed for almost three hours and every cop for at least three counties was either driving, cycling, or buzzing around in a helicopter in a 5-square mile area. Surprise stops were carefully planned. As were W's lines, evidently: "Let's order a couple of plates of nachos, on me."

Here's the local perspective on his sweaty visit, written by my friend Tricia Cortez at the Laredo Morning Times.

Is there any $-figure as to how much/year it takes to keep W alive?

It's not measured in dollars, but in free nachos offered. We used to say "pork" - but now we could say "nachos."
