US Income Inequality

This graph is from Timothy Noah's handy little discussion of income inequality in the US and what he calls today's "Great Divergence.

There was, however, one graph that was very offensive, the one showing who pays the most federal taxes. I don't see the relevance in breaking out federal taxes from all taxes other than to disguise the fact that state and local taxes are extraordinarily regressive, often amounting to little more than a tax on being poor.
